Simon Osei-Mensah, the Minister for the Ashanti Region, has stated that the government will not be able to complete the Suame Interchange before the general elections in 2024.
Mr. Osei-Mensah, on the other hand, pleaded with residents of the Region not to politicize the project when he appeared on the evening political show GhanAkoma on Akoma FM in Kumasi.
He went on to say that "all the complementary roads linked to the project will be completed before the 2024 general elections" was the most important thing.
President Nana Akufo-Addo made the declaration that the government is diligently working to improve urban mobility in Kumasi and the Ashanti Region as a whole when he laid the foundation stone in October 2022 for the Suame Interchange.
A four-tier interchange with overpasses at Abrepo, Krofrom, Anomangye, Magazine New Road, and Abusuakruwa Junction in the Suame Constituency is part of the Suame Interchange project.
The sod cutting took place five months ago, but the project has not yet begun.
In the interview with host Kofi Asante Ennin, the Ashanti Regional Minister stated that the project cannot be finished before the 2024 general elections.
He stated that they will complete the project within the allotted time of 36 months.
He attributed the project's delay to the relocation of nearby utility lines, the construction company's camp location, and a delay in the release of project funds.
He stated, "Frankly speaking, I will not say that all the major components on the Suame Interchange could be finished before the Ghanaian general elections in 2024."
He appealed to the residents of the Region to cooperate with the government in resolving the project's initial difficulties.
Since the construction company and the government have resolved most of the issues, he promised that work on the project would soon resume.
